Harry Heckenliable was the son of Art and Emma Heckliable and was very active in the Medicine Hat music scene during the late 50s and all through the 60s. He played both bass and drums with groups that worked the bar circuit and dance halls like the Corona Ballroom. This picture from 1967 has Harry playing drums with Joe Boschee (See Joe Boschee, Ray and Wayne Spackman, The Country Gentlemen) on fiddle, John Somoila on guitar and Ray Spackman on bass. To the best of my knowledge Harry had the first Fender bass in Medicine Hat. Aside from being a musician, he was a very competitive golfer as well as being known for winning a few dollars now and then at the Regent Pool Hall on second street. (See Elgin Mann and Joe Boschee for other photos of Harry).
Another picture of Harry Heckenliable playing drums in 1967. This picture has Joe Boschee on fiddle and is the only picture I have been able to find of Ron Larson on guitar. Ron played all the hotels during the 60s and was a DJ on CHAT radio as well as hosting a country music show on CHAT TV.
Harry Heckenliable playing bass for Elgin Mann when they became the first group to play in a bar in Medicine Hat. This photo was taken in 1965?? at the Park Lane Hotel. Left to Right……Harry Heckenliable, Elgin Mann, Melvin Mann(drums) and Wally Vossler on steel guitar. This is one of very few photos we have of Melvin Mann. ( see Elgin Mann)
Since there are so few photos of Harry this photo from the mid 1970s is included here.
