The Nite Hawks , at least at the time of this poster in the early 60s, consisted of Vern Schneider (bass), John Weimer (accordion), Harry Winkler (guitar), Gerald Kunz (banjo) and Wally Vossler (steel guitar). All of these guys played for many years around Medicine Hat but this is the only thing I have been able to find on them. Hopefully some pictures or an original of the poster will turn up.
This appears to be something of a reunion engagement for The Nitehawks . From L to R…John Weimer (accordion), Gerald Kunz( banjo), Harry Winkler (guitar) , Vern Schneider (bass)
Here is a later day version of accordionist John Weimer who was one of the founding members of the Nite Hawks. John spent many years working at the Medicine Hat News and was a go-to accordion player for many old time and country and western bands during the 60s.
Harry Winkler…….Another of the founding members of the Nite Hawks a good number of years after the band played together in the 60s.
Wally Vossler was very popuar during the 60s and 70s both as a steel guitar player and as a person. He would have been one of very few steel guitar players in Medicine Hat for many years and was always in demand. He worked a great deal with Elgin Mann (see Elgin Mann) as well as the Nite Hawks and most every other country band in the city. During the 60s he was manager of the old War Surplus store on 3rd street. ( or was it on 2nd Street??)
